About This Piece
The Portal — also known as Excucistar Triuctus, the Passage of Awakening — is a monumental archway built around two 1,000-pound stainless steel rings counter-rotating around a narrow bridge. Crossing the two-foot-wide span, viewers are enveloped by fire, fog, steam, and water, with Palo Santo and copal scents released along the way and flames erupting from the horns at its peak. The piece was designed to be walked through — a rite of passage that transforms the viewer from spectator to participant. Modular and portable, it can be installed indoors or out, and is available for rental or purchase.
